Memory foam mattresses are cozy, but spills and accidents happen! If you find yours wet, quick action is key to prevent mold. Here’s how to dry it effectively:
1. Act Fast!
- The sooner you start drying your mattress, the less chance for moisture to set in and damage the foam.
2. Blot Up the Moisture
- Grab clean, dry towels and firmly press them onto the wet areas.
- Replace damp towels frequently.
- Don’t rub, as that spreads the moisture deeper.
3. Baking Soda to the Rescue
- Sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda over the wet areas.
- Let it sit for several hours to soak up excess liquid.
- Vacuum the baking soda away.
4. Airflow is Everything
- Indoors: Open windows, run fans, and use a dehumidifier if you have one.
- Outdoors: If possible, place the mattress in direct sunlight for faster drying and natural sanitizing. It needs to be supported, so lean it against a wall or sturdy object.
5. Check for Dryness
- Make sure the mattress is completely dry before putting sheets back on. Even slight dampness can cause mold growth
- To speed things up, repeat the baking soda step if needed.
Important Notes:
- Wet/Dry Vac: If the spill is large, a wet/dry vacuum can extract more moisture.
- Avoid Hairdryers: Concentrated heat might damage the foam.
- Never Sleep on a Damp Mattress: Mold is a health hazard!
Prevention is Key
- A waterproof mattress protector can save you a lot of trouble, especially if you have children or pets.
