Folding your blow-up mattress correctly saves space and helps prevent damage. Here’s the easy way to do it:
Step 1: Deflate Completely
- Open the air valve(s). Most mattresses have one or two valves for inflation and deflation.
- Gently push out air. Apply pressure to the mattress to help force the air out.
- Reverse pump (if applicable). Some mattresses come with pumps that can also deflate – use this feature if you have it.
Step 2: Fold Lengthwise
- Fold in thirds or quarters. Depending on the size of your mattress, fold it lengthwise like an accordion.
- Squeeze out air. Gently press on the folded sections to expel any remaining air.
Step 3: Roll It Up
- Start from the end opposite the valve. This helps push out any final bits of air.
- Roll tightly. Roll as neatly as possible, keeping it straight.
- Secure with straps (if included). Many blow-up mattresses come with straps or ties to keep the rolled-up mattress in place.
Extra Tips
- Store in the original bag. The bag is designed for the mattress’s specific folded shape. If you don’t have the bag, use a similarly sized storage container.
- Store in a dry place. Moisture can lead to mold or mildew.
- Be gentle. Don’t force folds or jam the mattress when rolling, as this can cause punctures and tears.
Why Fold Properly?
- Prevents damage: Folding carefully avoids putting unnecessary stress on the seams and material of the mattress.
- Saves storage space: A folded mattress takes up much less room in your closet or storage area.
- Easier to transport: Properly folded mattresses are easier to carry when traveling or camping.
